Private Oia, Akrotiri and Greek Lunch

Private Oia, Akrotiri archaeology and a proper Greek lunch — culture and cuisine combined.

Duration: 6 Hours 30 MinutesPace: ModerateBest for: Private travellers who want both headline archaeology and Oia with lunch handled in one booking

Private six-and-a-half-hour itinerary linking Oia, the Akrotiri excavations and included Greek lunch — moderate grading for village steps and archaeological site walking.

Akrotiri's covered Bronze Age ruins are Santorini's essential history stop — allow guided time inside the site.

Oia provides the caldera photography counterpoint after or before the archaeological visit.

Included lunch removes one planning variable on a busy port day.

Getting there from the cruise port

Santorini cruise ships typically anchor in the caldera rather than berth alongside a town pier. Most passengers reach shore by tender — commonly to the Old Port (Skala) beneath Fira, though some operators and larger ship deployments use Athinios commercial port with coach transfers to designated meeting points instead. Arrangements vary by ship and tour, so confirm your exact pickup and drop-off from your booking confirmation before sailing day, not from a generic port map. From the Old Port, the cable car to cliff-top Fira is the usual option, but on multi-ship days the queue can consume a meaningful slice of a short call. A steep walking path of roughly 600 steps also links the port to Fira; it is exposed, often hot in summer, and not suitable for all passengers. Donkeys have a long history on this route but are not a recommended modern choice given welfare concerns, crowding and better alternatives — treat them as historic context only. Excursions may meet at the Old Port, Athinios, Fira or other confirmed points depending on the product. Plan every day backwards from your ship's stated all-aboard time, not its published departure, and build in tender and transfer buffer on busy days.
